
ACHL Playoffs Begin on Thursday
March 17, 2003 - Atlantic Coast Hockey League 2 (ACHL 2) News Release
The Atlantic Coast Hockey League 2002-03 regular season has been completed and its now on to the ACHL Playoffs. The first round of the playoffs will begin on Thursday, March 20th, with two best of five series.
On March 15th, the ACHL announced that due to the lack of available playing dates for the playoffs, the regular season champion Orlando Seals will play the third place Macon Trax in the semi-final round while the second place Knoxville Ice Bears will play the fourth place Winston-Salem Parrots.

Final Regular Season Weekend Attracts Large Crowds:
The Knoxville Ice Bears drew a Knoxville professional hockey record crowd of 5511 on Saturday night (3/15). The Ice Bears led the ACHL in attendance this season with an average of 3643.
The Orlando Seals finally put two big crowds back to back over the final weekend of play. On Friday (3/14), 5188 were in attendance as the Seals were presented with the ACHL regular season champion "Commissioners Cup". On Sunday (3/16), 4769 were in attendance for the Seals final home game before the playoffs.
Knoxville, Orlando, and the Cape Fear Fire Antz all averaged over 3000+ per game this year, and Knoxville continues to lead all of minor professional hockey in increase of average attendance.
ACHL Player of the Week:
Tommy Stewart of the Macon Trax is the Atlantic Coast Hockey League Player of the Week. Stewart, from Brantford, Ontario, wrapped up the regular season with six goals and three assists for nine points.Tommy had a hat trick vs. Orlando on 3/15. He won the ACHL league scoring title with 44 goals & 57 assists for 101 points. Stewart led the ACHL in goals (44), and was second to Orlando's Louis Goulet in assists (57).
ACHL Goaltenders of the Week:
Jason Tapp and Fred Beaubein of the Knoxville Ice Bears are the Co-Atlantic Coast Hockey League Goaltenders of the Week. Tapp, from British Columbia, and Beaubein,from Quebec, helped lead the Ice Bears to three straight victories last week as Knoxvile secured second place in the ACHL. The two netminders combined to stop 66 of 74 shots in victories over Winston-Salem, Jacksonville, and Cape Fear.
