Aces Host First-Ever Playoff Games Wednesday and Thursday

RENO, Nev.-The Reno Aces will open their first-ever playoff series Wednesday and Thursday nights at 6:35 p.m. at Aces Ballpark, as they play host to the rival Sacramento River Cats in the first two games of the best-of-five Pacific Coast League Pacific Conference Championship Series.

In Game 1-set for Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. at Aces Ballpark-Aces lefty Zach Kroenke (10-3, 5.89 ERA) is set to start against River Cats righty Graham Godfrey (14-3, 2.68 ERA), in a matchup of two pitchers who have seen big-league time this season. All fans in attendance at Wednesday's series opener will receive a white Reno Aces rally towel, presented by Siena Hotel Spa Casino.

The series continues Thursday night at 6:35 p.m., when Reno sends right-hander Barry Enright (9-5, 5.21) to the mound against River Cats righty Tyson Ross (3-2, 7.61), in another match-up of pitchers with Major League experience.

Thursday's Game 2 is a Coors Light Thirsty Thursday(tm), with $2 beers available until the fifth inning. In addition, for just $12, fans can purchase a Coors Light Party Zone game ticket, Reno Aces mug and one free fill-up of either Coors or Coors Light.

In addition, fans will be treated to a special Thursday night fireworks extravaganza after the game, to celebrate the Aces' inaugural trip to the postseason.

During the 2011 regular season, the Aces went 7-9 against the River Cats, but were outscored by just five total runs. The season series was dominated by the two offenses, as each team averaged more than six runs per game. Aces catcher Konrad Schmidt paced Reno's offense in the season series, hitting .378 with three home runs and nine RBIs in 10 games against the River Cats.

The final three games of the series will be played at Raley Field in Sacramento Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m., and Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Reno righty Kevin Mulvey (4-9, 6.64 ERA) is slated to throw Game 3 against Sacramento right-hander Travis Banwart (9-9, 4.63 ERA). The starters in Games 4 and 5 (if necessary) have yet to be named for either club. All three first-round road games will be available for fans to view live at the Freight House District.

Should the Aces win the Pacific Conference Championship Series, they would face off against the American Conference Champion on the road, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 13. Aces' second-round home games would be Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16-18.
