AC St. Louis Ready for Carolina

ST. LOUIS, MO (July 2, 2010) - AC St. Louis, playing in the U.S.S.F. Division II Pro League, face the Carolina Railhawks this Saturday night, July 3, at The Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park. Kick-off is set for 7:10 p.m. CT. The game can be viewed via live streaming at www.ac-stlouis.com.
St. Louis returns to league play after a road trip to the West Coast earlier in the week. AC St. Louis fell 2-0 to the Los Angeles Galaxy in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night. St. Louis held the Galaxy scoreless for 70 minutes before conceding the eventual game winner to area native Chris Klein.
Saturday night will be the second meeting this year between. St. Louis and Carolina. The Railhawks defeated St. Louis 2-0 in the first ever game in franchise history on April 10 in Cary, North Carolina. Since that date AC St. Louis has undergone a lot of changes, and are a much different team from what that first outing showed.
AC St. Louis has lost just once in their last five matches, and Carolina are playing just as well as they are unbeaten in their last six. Despite having only one more win than St. Louis the Railhawks have only two losses. Their record of 3-2-6 makes them a hard team to categorize, except to say they are difficult to beat. The Railhawks are a plus three in goal differential on the year, and allow just a goal per game .
St. Louis is a ship turning in a new direction. Goals have been hard to come by for AC's opponents, and before Tuesday night's game in Los Angeles St. Louis had four consecutive shutouts. Scoring might be at a premium come Saturday night.
New head coach Dale Schilly will be looking for his first win since taking over the reigns on June 24. Schilly has made an impressive start with a draw against league leading Vancouver, and a more than respectable performance in LA against the Galaxy. Schilly and team captain Jack Traynor have definite plans for July, and a goal for where they want to be at the end of the month.
"We want a winning record for this next month," declared Traynor. "If we reach our goals I think we can even take a run at the playoffs."
"In one month we would like to be an attacking oriented team," said Schilly. "A team that can figure out how to score goals and create chances. By the end of season we want to be in the playoffs."
Defensively AC St. Louis will have to make do without defender Dillon Barna. Barna suffered a broken collarbone in practice on Friday morning. The club did get some good news, defender Zach Bauer is eligible to play after recovering from a fractured foot and could possibly make a start Saturday night. Expect AC St. Louis to field a starting eleven with only a few changes from Tuesday's lineup in Los Angeles.
