ABA's Hershey team moves to Maryland

June 16, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. Joe Newman, ABA Co-Founder, today announced that the professional basketball league has approved the movement of the team originally scheduled for Hershey PA to Upper Marlboro, MD. According to Newman, "We were having difficulty finalizing the venue and dates in Hershey, a tremendous city. But, we needed to move forward so that we could solidify our divisions and create our schedules. Hopefully we'll be able to play next season also in Hershey."

Haines commented, "We're very excited about Upper Marlboro and THE SHOWPLACE ARENA. It's a fabulous 6000 seat venue with suites and the people there are very excited and are being very cooperative. We're just about 15 miles from Washington DC, 30 miles from Baltimore and less than that from Annapolis. Lots of people close by - and they'll love our exciting and affordable ABA basketball."

Haines added, "And we've decided to schedule two area tryout camps to get started. The first one will be held in Norfolk, VA on June 26th. Registration will start at 10AM. For more information, contact the NightHawks at (717) 581-8200 or email ahaines@abanighthawks.com. The second tryout will be held in the Washington DC area on July 10th. It will be held in the Bowie Gym, 4100 Northview Drive, Bowie MD 20716, registration starts at 3PM. The cost is $125 pre-registered or $175 the day of the event."
