ABA To Play In Owensboro Kentucky This Season

Published on August 12, 2008 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the league will play in Owensboro, Kentucky this season with a team owned by Jay Sills. "Owensboro is a great basketball city, the facility the team has chosen is excellent and in Jay Sills we have a strong businessman and passionate basketball person - the perfect combination. He has put together a great staff and we anticipate a competitive operation both on and off the court," said Joe Newman, ABA CEO. "We are very happy to be in Owensboro, it really fits into our divisional play."

A native of Harned Kentucky in Breckinridge County, Sills was part of a state basketball championship in 1995 with Breckinridge County High School and made the All State Tournament team. He went on to play basketball at Brescia College in Owensboro and graduated in 2000 from Bellarmine University in Louisville with a B.A. in Business Administration and Economics. He is now the owner of Homeland Financial Group and Consumer Title Services in Bowling Green. He and his wife Jessica have a daughter, Isabella.

"There has been a lot of confusion as to where we will be playing this season," stated Sills. "The key is the venue and we have a great one in the SportsCenter in Owensboro. We are really pleased to be there and very excited about joining the ABA. If you know Kentucky basketball, winning is a tradition - and with the players we've assembled thus far, plus those we're looking at, we'll be very competitive. It should be a great first season."
