Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association today announced that it had signed an agreement with the Mongolian Basketball Association (MBA) to help organize basketball clinics and summer basketball camps in Mongolia for both children and adults beginning in June.
According to Ricardo Richardson, ABA Executive Vice President, "We have been working closely with Nadmid Tsevegsuren, CEO and Co-Founder of the Delpil Group in Mongolia to put this intitiative together. Mongolia is a fabulous country located between Russia and China and very enthusiastic about basketball."
"We are very pleased to have this relationship with the ABA. The ABA red, white and blue balls are very popular here and the ABA game itself is much like the game we play - faster, higher scoring with great emphasis on full-court defense," stated Tsevegsuren. "The exhibition game will be promoted as an educational event to encourage sports activities by children and young adults of Mongolia and to introduce professional sports to the Mongolian citizensw. We hope to have at least three exhibition games for public participation to be played with the MBA."
Ricardson added, "We have selected the Kentucky Colonels to be the team representing the ABA and the USA. Stephanie Roach, the first African-American woman owner of a professional basketball team, is truly representative of the diversity of the ABA and its goals of inclusion. "Tree" Rollins, former NBA star and coach of the Kentucky Colonels will take ten players and two coaches to play games and to hold basketball clinics there. Two ABA executives will also attend."
The ABA Tour of Mongolia will be held from May 29th through June 7th. The ABA will be meeting and working also with the Mongolian Sports Association and other sports and government entities in Mongolia. Additional details will be forthcoming.
