ABA schedules referees recruitment sessions
Published on July 12, 2004 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Rochester, NY. Tom Chichester, ABA Director of Officials, for the progressional basketball league today announced a series of referee recruitment sessions following successful sessions in Portland OR, Louisville KY and San Diego CA. According to Chichester, "From our earlier sessions, I have been able to identify and hire about 65 new officials to go with our current staff of 35 officials. I am about 50% there in the completion of the major expansion of the staff for next season. With the expansion of the league to 35 teams, it is the largest single expansion in sports league history - the same holds true for the growth of the officiating staff as well."
The following are the dates and locations of the Referee Recuitment Sessions:
July 25 - Ft. Worth, TX
July 31 - New Jersey
August 7 - Washington DC
August 14 - Oklahoma
August 21 - Seattle, WA
For more information about the sessions, contact Tom Chichester at tcrefaba@frontier.net.
Chichester added, "This will be a huge undertaking for me to be able to accomplish in the next six months. I will have to adjust quickly with my responsibilities. Going from a seven team, 35 person staff to a 35 team 160 person staff will certainly create a challenge. However, it is a challenge the league and I are up for and excited about. I consider it a great privilege to be a part of this growth and to be able to meet and provide opportunities for many officials throughout the country as well as Mexico and Canada."
