ABA returns to Hawaii

Published on May 31, 2007 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it will return to Honolulu, Hawaii this season after a two year hiatus. "Hawaii has always been very supportive of an ABA team," said Joe Newman, ABA CEO. "The problem has been the cost of transportation to and from the mainland. That problem has been solved with a major airlines sponsorship that will make travel both ways as economical as traveling from Los Angeles to Sacramento. We are delighted to have Hawaii back and our players and coaches are thrilled with the idea of spending some winter days on the beautiful beaches of Hawaii."

The team will be owned and operated by Hawaii Basketball, Inc (HBI). Team President will be Andrew Moss. Prior to becoming HBI President, Andrew represented athletes as an agent in national and international basketball leagues as well as the NFL. A resident of Hawaii and a member of the Hawaii business community since 2003, Andrew has a proven record for success in creating business relationships, including the automotive and power equipment industries.

"Hawaii is such a tight community. The support for local sports is huge. This is a great market for the ABA," stated Moss. "We are really looking forward to this venture and hope to bring the ABA championship to Hawaii our first season."

The team Vice President and co-owner is Ira Harge, Jr. The ABA has been a part of his family since his childhood. He is the son of former ABA great Ira Harge, Sr. Ira, Jr. played college basketball at San Diego State and the University of Denver. After graduation, he played professionally in Europe. From Europe, he transitioned from basketball to business. Over the past nineteen years, he has worked in the banking, financial planning, wealth management industry. "I have been looking for an opportunity to incorporate my love of the game with an investment opportunity of team ownership and found it in the ABA," added Harge.

"I have fond memories of the ABA. It was and is still a big part of my life. My brother Joe won the ABA Championship in Little Rock in 2004."

"We have quite a few announcements to make - venue, coaches, tryout camps, dance teams, sponsors," commented Moss. "While we are just making our first announcement, we have been working long and hard to put this together and are confident that we will have a fabulous organization and a great reception here in Hawaii. We are ready to go."
