ABA now accepting 2008 market reservations
Published on June 14, 2007 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the league is accepting market reservations for the 2008-2009 season. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "Once again this year, we have record-setting expansion and will play with about 60 teams in the US, Canada and Mexico when the season begins in November. And, we have a good head start on 2008 already with several teams committed that decided to take this season off to better prepare themselves as well as a few new ones that have reserved markets. Our expansion in 2008 should be terrific."
"We receive many emails asking specifically where we would like to expand and if there are still good markets available. We would like to see teams in North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Wisconsin and Oregon as well as additional teams in Canada and Mexico. And of course, there are great cities in many of the states that already have ABA teams. Lots of room for expansion," Newman added. "We like the idea of regional rivalries and are always concerned with travel distances between teams."
One of the reasons for the ABA's phenomenal growth is that the ABA is the only professional sports league without a franchise fee (only a small market reservation fee is required) and there are no dues or assessments. ABA member teams keep 100% of their ticket revenue as well as their sponsorship, merchandise and local/radio/TV revenue. Plus, the ABA provides its teams with an extraordinary business plan and management plan including The Keys to Success.
