Published on January 15, 2006 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today named the Head Coaches for the upcoming ABA All Star Game on Saturday, February 11th to be played at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.
The coach of the East All Stars will be Greg Graham, head coach of the undefeated Indiana Alley Cats; the coach of the West All Stars will be Gary Grant, owner and head coach of the powerful Southern California Legends. Both coaches had distinguished playing careers in the NBA
After being a four-year starter for Bobby Knight's Indiana Hoosiers, the Indianapolis native Graham was a first round draft pick (17th overall) by the Charlotte Hornets in 1993 and went on to play for five years with the Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, Seattle Sonics and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Gary Grant was a consensus All American for the University of Michigan and finished there as the school's all-time leader in assists and second time leader in scoring. He played professionally for 13 years with the Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, Miami Heat and Portland Trailblazers and is second in all-time assists and steals for the Clippers. He also served as an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers as well as assistant coach for San Diego State University before starting the SoCal Legends.
According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "Both Greg and Gary have done extraordinary jobs with their teams as can be evidenced by outstanding records. Former Big Ten rivals and NBA rivals will again have the chance to compete with one another. It should be a great game."
Assistant coaches for the two All Star teams will be named on Wednesday...and then, players will be announced two at a time starting later in the week. For more information, visit www.abalive.com.
