ABA knows the way to San Jose
Published on October 23, 2004 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. Joe Newman, ABA co-Founder, today announced that the professional basketball league will add its 19th expansion team for the 2005-2006 season in San Jose, California. According to Newman, "San Jose is a premiere market long deserving of top quality professional basketball - and we are thrilled to add the city to our expansion - and even more thrilled with the ownership group - a fabulous group led by Kazumi Hasegawa, Esq. - a co-owner and partner of the Barnes and Hasegawa law firm with offices in Century City and Ontario, California. There's no doubt in my mind that San Jose will be a premiere ABA city."
Ms. Hasegawa's firm specializes in business law with immigration and employment-related issues that companies and corporations may encounter. The majority of Ms. Hasegawa's clients are foreign owned companies or individuals where she utilizes her multi-lingual skills to cater them in their native languages to ease their difficulties and worries dealing with the US markets, cultures and English. She stated, "My brother and I are excited about the opportunity to be a part of the ABA. My law partner Sharon Barnes is involved with the Ontario Warriors team; I'm sure that the competition between us will be interesting and fun."
Ms. Hasegawa was born in Taiwan and grew up in Japan, but she considers California her home since she has been here since her junior high school days. Because of her diverse background in cultures and languages (she speaks Japanese, Taiwanese and Mandarin), she is able to relate to people with different backgrounds and attributes. Like her brother and co-owner brother James Hasegawa, she also attended Beijung University as an exchange student from her Alma Mater, UCLA.
Ms. Hasegawa added, "James and I are very serious about this team; we're already talking with candidates for GM, coach and other personnel and are putting our operations in place. This is a combination of business and basketball - and our goal is to be the best of both. Like the ABA, we too know the way to San Jose."
