ABA holds league meeting in Indianapolis
Published on June 27, 2004 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. Joe Newman, ABA Co-Founder, today announced that the seven teams that played last season along with the 2004 and 2005 expansion teams are meeting in Indianapolis on June 27/28 to discuss the upcoming season that begins in November. According to Newman, "Would you believe that over 100 people are attending the dinner/reception and meeting being held at the Five Seasons Sports Country Club in Indianapolis? Who would have thought that the league would have grown so quickly? In all, 41 teams are represented."
Among the topics being discussed are league rules, referees, divisions, schedules, national licensing agreements, national radio and TV, ABA Entertainment, venue construction and financing, tryout camps, ticket sales, sponsorships and other league business matters. Team owners, general managers, coaches and marketing people are attending the meeting and providing progress reports.
Dick Tinkham, ABA Co-Founder and Special Counsel added, "Having been deeply involved with the original ABA in its start-up years and watching what has happened to this league so quickly continues to amaze me. The quality of ownership and management, the diversity of ownership and management, the passion and commitment of everyone involved is truly incredible. My understanding is that the league will have well over 300 players this season and employ more than 60 coaches. It is almost incomprehensible - but not surprising - the quality and excitement of the ABA game, combined with its affordability for fans, justifies the growth and the success."
