ABA heads to Oregon

April 16, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Oregon Riptide News Release

Portland, OR. There can be no vulnerability without risk; there can be no community without vulnerability; there can be no peace, and ultimately no life, without community.

This quote embodies what the OREGON RIPTIDE will be about, without Community there is no life!

The Oregon Riptide has will and is going to bring the ABA back to Oregon with excitement and a commitment to remember the ABA. The Riptide will play one or more games with retro uniforms down to the Chuck Taylor's All-Star Converse shoes and high worn socks, with other surprises throughout the season. We are literally reliving history as we play currently in the ABA; the Riptide will embrace the power and excitement of the Red, White and Blue.

The Oregon Riptide will be playing their inaugural ABA season this November 2006 in the lovely Metro area of Portland. It is true it rains almost all year in Oregon. It will be raining down points and excitement in the Oregon Riptide's home venue. The Home venue of the Oregon Riptide will be at Liberty High School. Liberty High School is the home of the renowned "Les Schwab Invitational" which is the Pacific Northwest's largest high school basketball tournament. The venue will support 3,000 screaming fans and be located in Beaverton, Oregon which is 10 minutes from downtown Portland and home to NIKE Headquarters.

The Riptide operations will be facilitated by J. Brice, Owner and Team President along with the help of his family, management staff, interns and coaching staff. They are prepared to bring excitement back to the metropolitan area of Portland, specifically in the bordering cities of Beaverton and Hillsboro through participation in the ABA.

Granted the Riptide will share the sports page with the Portland Trailblazers and true, their seasons are close in days and time of play and both teams have quality athletes, but that does not pose as a challenge to the Oregon Riptide. There is one thing the Riptide will have that the Trailblazers will be jealous of and that is the fact that the players of the Riptide will be following their dreams and genuinely enjoying the road to get there. The Riptide will commit to scheduling practices and games so the players can still strive for their aspiration of playing at the next level, yet still be able to have a family, continue employment at their current workplace and not hamper their personal lives with hectic practice schedules and numerous overnight road games.

Another commitment of the Riptide that differs from the "Overpriced, non-enthusiastic and unappreciative of their opportunity players League," says owner J. Brice, "We will commit to recruiting area talent, support players development professionally and personally for the next level, always be willing to lend a hand to fellow team owners, and have and provide fun, affordable, quality entertainment for the community."

The Riptide will hold a press conference on May 2, 2006 to officially create awareness to Oregon residents that the ABA is back and in full forc e. The Riptide will also announce their head coach my May 15, 2006. The Riptide will hold their first Free Agents camp on May 20th. If interested, email dejavu2ku@msn.com for more information. The Riptide's website a is underway and will be available by May 30th at www.oregonaba.com (not yet). Or visit www.abalive.com. (Release written by M. Scott Peck).

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
