ABA heads to Macon, Georgia, next season
April 20, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it would add a team in Macon, Georgia beginning in November. The team will be known as the Georgia Gwizzlies and will be owned by Pelican Properties, a group consisting of veteran coach/GM Embry Malone, Vanessa Turner, Alvin and Bennie Malone. "Embry has wanted to play in the ABA for several years; he is well known in Georgia and has always fielded a very competitive team. They have an excellent venue at the Macon Centerplex and have put things in motion already. We are very pleased to have them as part of the ABA," stated ABA CEO Joe Newman.
"It has taken us quite sometime to be ready to play," stated Malone. "We are very fortunate to have people on our board like Martin Luther King III, Doug Davidson and Harold Zensbleum. Our coaches are also in place, Kevin Ardister and Marcus Ward and I know they'll be able to put together a very good team. Vanessa Turner is a great partner, we've been around, we know what it takes - and we want very much to be one of the ABA's premiere organizations. The ABA has new Standards and Requirements and we will meet them."
