ABA final playoff rounds start Wednesday

March 21, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Rochester, NY. The American Basketball Association (ABA) final playoff rounds start Wednesday at The Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, NY as part of The Great Eight Championship Playoff Series. Eight strong ABA teams will compete in a 7-game single elimination tournament with the final game scheduled for 2pm on Sunday.

According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "This will be a chance for fans to see just how great the ABA really is - not only exciting, fast-paced competitive basketball and top-flight musical entertainment, but that it is very affordable also - a playoff tournament and entertainment that the entire family can afford in a great arena. The host team, the Rochester RazorSharks, have put together a three-day event that will showcase the ABA at its very best - and we are greatly appreciative of the effort they have made to make it a first class event."

The participating teams include the host Rochester RazorSharks, Indiana Alley Cats, Southern California Legends, Bellingham Slam, Maryland Nighthawks, San Jose Skyrockets, Strong Island Sound and Atlanta Vision (see brackets on www.abalive.com). There will be four games on Wednesday, two on Saturday and the Championship Game on Sunday, with special ticket packages available. The games can be heard live with play-by-play from veteran broadcaster Derrick Pearson by visiting www.abalive.com. The games can also be seen on the internet by visiting www.iptvn.com for details.

ABA Entertainment will be part of the festivities with the first Shooting Starz talent search, a part of an "American Idol-like" search for outstanding musical talent. See www.starzinmotion.com for details.

Newman added, "The first two rounds of the playoffs were amazing. 14 of the 16 top seeded teams won their games; there were only two upsets and they were by teams that were just an inch below the top 16. This is a strong field; we couldn't have scripted it better. The fans of Rochester will be very impressed as we have teams representative from the northeast, southeast, midwest, west and northwest. It doesn't get better than this." For more information, visit www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
