ABA Bellevue Blackhawks VS. ABA Tacoma Navigators

July 31, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Tacoma, WA. The first exhibition game of the 2005-2006 American Basketball Association (ABA) season will be played on Saturday, August 6th at 7pm at Mt. Tahoma High School in Tacoma, WA. The defending 2004-2005 Western Conference Champion Bellevue Blackhawks will take on the expansion Tacoma Navigators in a game that will cap a day of exciting events benefitting the Renew Our Tacoma Dome Committee which is running the campaign for "Yes on Proposition 1." If passed on September 20th, Prop. 1 would extend the 25-year Tacoma Dome bonds for an additional term and provide $45 million for much-needed upgrades and renovations to the Tacoma icon, the largest wooden dome in the world. The bonds, which were first issued in 1980, are scheduled to be retired at the end of the year. If re-issued in 2005, the measure would be tax-neutral, ensuring that Tacoma residents would pay no new taxes to secure the magnificent venue for generations to come.

The August 6th event will kick off at 9am with a free basketball skills clinic for kids aged 8-18, and will feature the coaching staffs of the Blackhawks and Navigators, as well as several players from last season's Bellevue team. Lunch will be served from noon-1pm and will be followed by an Open Free Agent Tryout Camp from 1-5PM. A one-time registration fee of $75 will be charged with all proceeds benefitting the Prop. 1 campaign. Players attending the tryout camp will be evaluated by both coaching staffs and will be competing for ten roster spots on each team. The top 20 players will suit up in official ABA game uniforms and play a full-speed exhibition game beginning at 7pm. The game will be contested under standard ABA rules. A suggested donation of $5 will be asked of those attending the game with all proceeds again going to the campaign.

The free agent tryout camp and exhibition game are open to any athlete over 18 years of age with the aspiration of playing professional basketball.
