ABA announces First Red, White, and Blue Concert
July 9, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced the first of a series of RED, WHITE AND BLUE CONCERTS that will feature top name entertainers in multiple music genres. The first show of the nationwide tour will be on Saturday, August 26th at 7pm at The Wigwam, the home of the ABA Indiana Alley Cats, located in Anderson, Indiana.
According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "Entertainment is a key part of the ABA package - top quality basketball and entertainment at affordable prices. Our goal is to have concerts at games and free standing concerts. This first one is a free-standing concert - and will feature some really exciting country artists. And of course, we'll be doing hip-hop, rock, pop and other concerts as the tour rolls out. And the tickets will be very affordably priced - you can be sure of that."
The first show will feature Johnny Counterfit, the Rich Little of Country Music. Johnny has performed for former Presidents Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan at the White House and has over 200 voices in his repertoire of artists such as Johnny Cash, Garth Brooks, Ernest Tubbs, Buck Owens - and his most requested rendition of The Bunkers with Archie & Edith which he has performed many times at the Grand Ole' Opry. The headliners of the star-studded show will also include Bobby Bare, CMA Entertainer of the Year several times and a proud cherished member of the Grand Ole' Opry. Additional acts are being booked and will be announced shortly.
The ABA RED, WHITE AND BLUE CONCERT is being produced by Paul Allsup of VRCA Records. Allsup is a veteran of the music industry with over 20 years experience in record and concerts. "We are very excited to be a part of the ABA and to have an opportunity to produce this concert - the first of series. The Wigwam is an excellent venue and our headliners will put on a great show and our tickets will be priced so that the whole family can enjoy a great evenings entertainment," said Allsup. "The league's fans are our first priority and we want to make this a fun-filled night. We're very pleased to be coming to Anderson, Indiana. Tickets will go on sale shortly. Portions of the proceeds of the concert will go to the Jesse J. Wilkerson Scholarship Fund ("...with your help we are out to make a difference in Madison County") and ABA Salute (ABA's support and tribute to the US Military and its families).
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
