August 4, 2009 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Evansville IceMen News Release
The All American Hockey League is proud to announce the 2009-2010 schedule. The league will be playing with 5 teams this season, after finishing its inaugural season with four teams. The four teams that finished the 2008-2009 season, the Chicago Blaze, Chi-Town Shooters, Battle Creek Revolution and the Evansville IceMen, are all returning for a second season. The AAHL has also announced the addition of the Detroit HitMen, playing in Fraser, Michigan.
The AAHL had previously announced the addition of two new ownership groups. The league has been working with several groups in an attempt to establish an Eastern Division. The AAHL Board of Governors decided to wait another season before adding a full Eastern Division, to continue to control travel costs and, also, due to the fact that one of the arenas was unable to confirm enough available dates for the 2009-2010 season, although ownership was prepared to move forward. Commissioner Bob Langdon, "We had a chance to put a couple of teams in the East, but ultimately we decided to wait until next season to have a self sustaining division in the East. We have two teams that we will be announcing during the season and we are working at finalizing at least two more for the 2010-2011 season."
The 2009-2010 season kicks off on October 23rd, with a rematch of last seasons finals. The 2009-2010 AAHL Champion Chi-Town Shooters will head to the seasons runner-up Battle Creek Revolution, before heading home the next night for the their home opener. The expansion, Detroit HitMen, open up at home against the Evansville IceMen. On Saturday October 24th the IceMen travel to the Chicago Blaze for their home opener. The Evansville IceMen will open up at home the next weekend, October 30th, against the Battle Creek Revolution.
The league will play a 44 game regular season, followed by two rounds of playoffs. The top four teams will make the playoffs and play a best-of-five first round, followed by a best-of-seven Finals.
