A Memo to NBA Players:aba Georgia
October 26, 2011 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Georgia Gwizzlies News Release
Atlanta,Georgia-Famed,legendary UCLA coach Johns Wooden once once in his book "The Pyramid of Success" that Talent is God" given be humble. Wooden also said Fame is man-given be thankful. After watching on TV Josh Smith,Joe Johnson and a few other Hawks play pickup basketball at a local gym my basketball intuition was amused. No refers,no clock,no organize basketball of any proportion' Again my Kentucky roots and Pepperdine playing and coaching instincts kicked in. Young men until the dusk is settled and the ink is dry on a new collective bargaining agreement play with a local team that has a track record dealing with the best on the planet, the ABA Georgia Gwizzlies. In 2004-2005 my teams were the first and only minor league team in the country that was in the same summer league with NBA teams. Matter of fact the summer before Paul Peirce won the NBA title for Boston my Gwizzlies team was scheduled to open against a Pierce led free agent summer team. In 2004 summer pro league the great Jerry West was miffed that a team called the Gwizzlies was in the same summer pro league of his NBA Memphis Grizzlies. The 2003 ABA Long Beach team had a player name Matt Barnes and 206 ABA Kentucky team player name Jamario Moon. From the 24 second shot clock to spacing on the floor which is essential a player can continue to work on his game in the ABA.Pro basketball is only three things1.Defense 2.Pick and Roll 3.Mis-matches.Under a structure playing environment(ABA) the players from the NBA will get that as an ABA Georgia Gwizzlies. We have really 80 ABA teams in America to select from, but my Gwizzlies are the real deal. They always brought a smile to that red freckled face personal friend and college teammate of mine we talked late at nite about my upcoming Gwizzlies seasons. Dennis Johnson would had never lent his name as an advisory board member to Gwizzlies unless we were certified professional basketball.
Embry Malone GM/Head
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
