New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Today the entire Scorpions organization reflects on former captain Rob Guinn. Fans are encouraged to share their favorite memories of Guinn on the Scorpions message boards at www.scorpionshockey.com.
Visitation and services for the New Mexico defenseman will be this evening, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care in Ames, Iowa. A "gathering of friends and family" will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. CDT with "a celebration of life" service to immediately follow the visitation period. Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is located at 414 Lincolnway in Ames.
The family invites those attending the visitation and service to bring memories and stories of time spent with Rob to share. On-line condolences, memories and stories also can reach the family at brookejc@hotmail.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family also requests that memorials be sent to the Rob Guinn Memorial Fund to support 5-month-old daughter Olivia's future education. Donations should be directed to the Leighton Legal Law Firm, 802 N. Clinton Street, Suite 1, Bloomington, Ill. 61701.
The 32-year-old Guinn died Saturday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
To honor his memory, the Scorpions plan to wear a jersey patch during the 2008-09 season with Guinn's initials and number on it.
"We apologize for including ticket information at the bottom of Monday's press release," said Gary Gelinas, president/general manager of the Scorpions. "The whole organization was still in a state of shock over the news and the whole story should have focused solely on Guinn's passing."
