Southern California Surf News Release
IRVINE, CA â A.C. Green, NBA Superstar and former Los Angeles Lakers Great will take on the duties and responsibilities as President and General Manager for the Southern California SURF ABA Pro Basketball team, effective immediately.
Team owner Michael Carroll made the announcement following the ABA Select victory in the World Pro Basketball Challenge Tournament just concluded in Las Vegas where A.C. stepped out of retirement temporarily to play in this first annual world-class event.
The SURF, under the outstanding coaching of former NBA Great Scott Brooks as head coach and with Earl (The Twirl) Cureton assisting, lead the So. Cal. SURF last year to its inaugural season 2nd place finish in the National Championship Games.
According to A.C., "The American Basketball Association (ABA) format offers an outstanding opportunity to bring this great sport of basketball to the local level where fans, families and the community can come together at the games -- and at very affordable prices --and witness a level of play that is as good as it gets in a unique and friendly environment."
In addition to his outstanding career as a world-class basketball player, Green is also known for his strong moral character and dedication to helping the youth of our country. His "A.C. Green Youth Foundation" is chartered and very active helping our young folks build self-esteem and character, and to teaching strong moral and ethical principles and standards to aid them in a life-long commitment to making responsible decisions that will help them in all areas of life.
"Taking on this senior management role with the So. Cal. SURF Pro Basketball team is an exciting opportunity to get even more involved with our local community," continued A.C. "The ABA and the SURF have tremendous potential and a solid future, not only for the fans but for sponsorship and advertisers as well, and I look forward to it becoming a catalyst to help build great friendships, and stronger neighborhoods and communities for us all to enjoy."
A.C. Green, three-time NBA World Champion with the Los Angeles Lakers still holds the NBA "Iron Man" title having played in a record 1,192 consecutive games.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
