\'Birds fly by Hawks in playoff opener

MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis won their eighth straight Pacific Coast League playoff game with a 7-5 win over Oklahoma City Wednesday night at AutoZone Park.

The Redbirds grabbed the lead in the third inning and never trailed again. Joe Mather tied the game with a solo home run and Donovan Solano gave the ‘Birds a two-run advantage with a single to right field. The home team utilized the long ball again in the fifth hitting two home runs. Allen Craig belted a two-run shot and Joe Mather hit his second homer of the night, also a two-run dinger. Mather became the first Memphis professional baseball player to hit two home runs in a single playoff game. Eight of the nine ‘Birds in the lineup had at least one hit. Chris Davis led the RedHawks going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a home run.

Brandon Dickson earned the win allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits over 5.1 innings. Guillermo Moscoso took the loss giving up seven runs, six earned, on nine hits over 4.2 innings. Josh Kinney worked around a leadoff double in the ninth to earn the save.
