HarbourCats Add CBS Consulting Forces
February 27, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Victoria HabourCats News Release
VICTORIA, B.C. - The Victoria HarbourCats feature collegiate athletes, hitting home runs or striking out batters.
Now, the HarbourCats have teamed with Collegiate Business Solutions, to add a collegiate advantage to off-field efforts to fill the seats for the 2015 West Coast League season.
Collegiate Business Solutions is a UVic student consulting firm that has been contracted to work with the HarbourCats front office to produce events and grow the group marketing component of the baseball franchise. Stuart Mair, a former usher at sports events in Calgary, and Sam Schwab, an American and a fourth-year business student at UVic, are the founding members of CBS, and are excited to make this a hallmark contract for their venture.
"There is an energy around this city that is really represented by the HarbourCats, and focusing on producing specific events and building the group market is perfectly in line with our consulting work," said Mair, the President of the UVic Commerce Students' Society and a member of the board for the Canadian Association of Business Students.
"The work we do is ideal for continuing the efforts to further the HarbourCats brand in Victoria and on Vancouver Island. The HarbourCats do things the right way, which makes it an excellent partnership for CBS."
The HarbourCats use NCAA and junior college players to entertain Victoria and area baseball fans, but focus on events that go beyond just the game.
"We work hard to be all things to all people, with an entertainment package that is thorough - ever-changing, and yet consistent," said Jim Swanson, the Vice-President and General Manager of the HarbourCats. "We saw our attendance grow significantly from the inaugural season for many reasons, and adding the consulting work of Collegiate Business Solutions will allow us to be more flexible for our customers and offer a diversity in ticketing and event options."
The HarbourCats open the 2015 season for real on June 5 with a home game against the Kelowna Falcons. The team will play exhibition games on May 31, June 2 and June 3, and will suit up for 60 games in total in a 70-day span.
"It's a busy season with a lot of opportunities for people from all segments of our community to have a good time, and get involved," said Swanson. "We offer fund-raising options for groups of all sorts, and are particularly proud of the work we do with local baseball and softball groups. Our fan base is dedicated and passionate about the product."
ANNOUNCEMENT, MONDAY
The HarbourCats will be making a "significant announcement" on Monday, about an upcoming event. The news is expected to be released around 11am - through a media release sent to area press, and through the team's social media outlets.
