Mavericks Sign Kyle Fletcher and Alex Velischek

Independence, Missouri - Sept. 10, 2014 - The Missouri Mavericks have signed forward Kyle Fletcher and defenseman Alex Velischek to standard player contracts for the 2014-15 season.

"Kyle plays with passion. He's a big body on the ice and a very good penalty killer," said Richard Matvichuk, Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations for the Missouri Mavericks. "After seeing him play in the Finals against the Allen Americans (CHL) last season, I know that he is a great player who will improve on the team we're building for the Mavericks."

The 25 year old Kanata, Ontario native has played 57 professional games, most recently donning a Denver Cutthroats sweater for 16 regular season contests in which he tallied 4 goals, and 6 assists. Fletcher played in all 16 Cutthroats' post-season matchups during their 2014 CHL Playoff Run, contributing 4 goals and 3 assists.

"We're happy to have Alex on our roster heading into training camp; he skates very well and he's very energetic on the ice with a great first pass," said Matvichuk of Velischek. "After speaking with my Associate Coach, Simon Watson, who saw Alex in action during the 2014 postseason, we are confident he will add to the Mavs' defensive core."

Defenseman Alex Velischek, of Kinnelon, New Jersey, spent 4 years playing for Providence College after being drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Velischek played 3 games for the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) during the 2012-13 season, and spent 36 regular season games with the Arizona Sundogs (CHL) during the 2013-14 regular season, racking up 11 points (4 goals, 7 assists) and 25 penalty minutes. The 23 year old defenseman also tallied 1 goal and an assist during 5 Sundogs postseason matchups.
