February 18, 2014 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release
Mustangs Finish Perfect Season, Las Vegas and Hidalgo Grab First
2/18/14 - The Chicago Mustangs became the second PASL team to complete a 16-0 undefeated season and rewrote the record book in the process.
The Mustangs, who will host the Newman Cup Championship Weekend March 15-16 and will play the Cleveland Freeze in the US Open Semifinals on February 22, became the highest scoring team in PASL history. Their win over Cincinnati on Sunday put them at 202 goals, eclipsing the 197 scored by the Stockton Cougars in 2008-09.
Chicago also became the first team with two 40-goal scorers (Bryan Moya and Efrain "Wilo" Martinez). Goalkeeper Jesus Flores won 16 games, breaking the old record of 13 set by Joe Kapinos last year. Martinez won the league scoring title with 63 points, while Moya finished fifth with 55 points and Miguel Vaca finished sixth with 54 points.
The Las Vegas Legends won their second straight division title by virtue of the tie breaker over San Diego. Both teams finished 13-3 in the Pacific Division.
The Hidalgo La Fiera and Dallas Sidekicks each finished 14-2 in the Central Division, but Hidalgo earned the tie breaker, giving them the division title and a first round bye.
Player of the Week
Joe Kapinos, Detroit Waza Flo
The second year goalkeeper phenom had to battle through this season after cruising to a 13-1 rookie season. Kapinos came up clutch this weekend in back-to-back one goal road wins at Cincinnati and Cleveland, propelling the Waza Flo into second place in the Eastern Division and earning a first round bye. The 24-year old improved to 10-4 on the season. Cleveland Freeze defender/assistant coach Louis Kastelic was impressed with Kapinos. "Both teams played well," Kastelic said. "We just ran into a real hot goaltender."

Tovar Extends Record to 40
PASL resident passmaster Enrique Tovar extended his league record for assists to 40. Last year he dished out a then-record 34 assists for the Las Vegas Legends.
Texas Doesn't Go Quietly
The Texas Strikers avoided becoming the first winless team in PASL history with a convincing 11-3 win over the visiting Tulsa Revolution. In ending their 17-game losing streak the Strikers tied the 2011-12 Arizona Storm and 2012-13 Sacramento Surge with identical 1-15 seasons.
US Open Down to Four
The Las Vegas Legends advanced to the US Open final four with a win Sunday over Bay Area Rosal. The Legends will face Hidalgo at a time and location to be determined. In the other semifinal the Cleveland Freeze will travel to Chicago to face the Mustangs on February 22.
