NEW ORLEANS (December 2, 2013) - The New Orleans VooDoo have named BJ Cohen, former VooDoo offensive and defensive lineman, as the New Orleans VooDoo offensive and defensive line coach.
Cohen enters his first season coaching in the Arena Football League.
" BJ and I have a lot of history together as teammates playing and winning Arena Bowls," said VooDoo Head Coach Pat O'Hara. "BJ is also a former VooDoo player, and his 10 years of AFL experience will serve him well as he transitions to coaching our Line. "
As a player, Cohen spent five of his 10 seasons in the AFL with the Orlando Predators. While with the Predators, Cohen gained an Arena Bowl Championship under his belt alongside VooDoo Head Coach Pat O'Hara. The two continued their journey to the Arena Bowl in 2003 with the Tampa Bay Storm where O'Hara would go on to win his third Arena Bowl title and Cohen would gain his second. Cohen would spend time with the New Orleans VooDoo during 2004-2005 and his final seasons would be spent with the Kansas City Brigade.
During his career, Cohen racked up 45 receptions for 514 yards and 11 touchdowns. Defensively, Cohen accumulated 151 tackles, 90 assists, 38.5 sack and three touchdowns. He had perhaps his best season while with the VooDoo, in 2005, where he notched 28 tackles, seven assists and nine sacks. Cohen continues to hold the New Orleans VooDoo single season franchise record with nine sacks. Also, he holds the VooDoo franchise record for highest career sacks with 13.5 set between 2005-2005.
The AFL veteran was named AFL All-Arena First Team and AFL-All Ironman Team in 2005 (VooDoo), and he was named All-Arena Second Team in 2003 (Tampa) and 2000 (Orlando). Cohen was also ranked in the 25 Greatest Ironmen in Arena Football History.
