Trade Sends Rayford to Dallas

Utah Blaze News Release
DALLAS, TX - The Indianapolis Colts traded former Utah Blaze defensive end Caesar Rayford to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick, the franchises announced Tuesday. Rayford lands in Dallas just three days after making the Colts' 53-man active roster out of training camp.
Now entering his rookie campaign in the NFL, Rayford saw extensive playing time with Indianapolis during the 2013 preseason, where he collected five sacks to lead all NFL players. Formerly an outside linebacker in the Colts' 3-4 scheme, Rayford's transition to the Cowboys' 4-3 system likely means a move back to his more natural position of defensive end.
Rayford played in 55 consecutive games for the Blaze from 2010 until midway through the 2013 season before signing with Indianapolis in May. During his three and a half years in Utah, Rayford set all-time franchise records by racking up 28.5 sacks, 33.5 tackles for loss, 10 forced fumbles, eight fumble recoveries and nine blocked kicks. He earned first-team All-Arena honors in 2011 after tying for second in AFL single-season history with five blocked kicks.
Dallas kicks off the season on NBC's Sunday Night Football against the New York Giants at 6:30 p.m. MST on September 8th.
