Titans Ready for 2013 Season

Cedar Rapids, IA: The journey for a United Bowl championship began Friday at midnight for head coach Mark Stoute and his 2013 squad. The Titans opened training camp last week at the team's facility, the Eastern Iowa Sports Complex. Stoute is joined by his coaching staff which includes assistant head coach Sean Ponder, Michael Custer, and Ed Flanagan, They are evaluating 40 players to cut down to 25 players by February 10th in time for the team to get set for the 2013 season opener February 16th when the Titans host the Chicago Slaughter at Mediacom Field inside the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

Flanagan joins the Titans with over 15 years of coaching experience at multiple levels. He has coached with San Bernadino (California) Valley College, Chaffey College, Oakland Invaders (USFL), San Diego Riptide (af2), Quad City Steamwheelers (af2), Milwaukee Mustangs (AFL), the Arizona Rattlers (AFL), and the Fairbanks Grizzlies (IFL).

Prior to starting a successful coaching career, Flanagan played for the NFL's Detroit Lions and San Diego Chargers from 1965-1976. The four-time NFL Pro-Bowler played his first 10 seasons with the Detroit Lions before finishing his last two seasons in San Diego. Flanagan was inducted into the All 75 Year Anniversary Team this year with the Detroit Lions. The All 75 team is the top players at each position for the last 75 years.

Michael Custer played wide receiver in the NFL for the New York Jets, New York Giants, and Washington Redskins. He has been involved with the game of football as a player and coach for over 28 years, including stints in the AFL, AF2, and the IFL. Custer was inducted into the Harvard Cup Hall of Fame of Western New York Class of 2011 for football and track.

The first live football action of the season takes place this Thursday night when the Titans take on the Green Blizzard at Mediacom Field inside the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena in a preseason matchup. Kickoff is at 7:05pm. It's a Heart of Gold Night as the Titans partner with the American Heart Association to raise funds as part of heart month. One lucky fan will walk away with $1000 cash and $5 from every ticket sold (excluding bleachers) will be donated to the Heart Association. Special tickets prices are available for this game only with bleacher seats on sale for $10 and all other sections for $15.
