Turlock Cal Express News Release
Turlock, Calif. - Turlock Express added a sixth victory to their winning streak tonight, 9-6, against the Sacramento Surge. This was their third win over the Surge this season.
While there were only two goals made altogether in the beginning quarter, it was full of well-executed offensive plays, but Turlock could not seem to find the net. Surge's Juan Flores was the first to put a point on the scoreboard in the fourth minute, but was quickly matched by midfielder Arturo Pulido on a free kick.
There was a total of five tallies recorded in the second quarter. Uriel Robledo made the first of Turlock's three, assisted by Bronil Koochoie. Robledo then received another point for his impressive assist that he slid between a Surge defender and goalkeeper to Samuel Saldate for the goal. The third goal for Express was scored by Ivan Campos, which brought his season total to 18. Sacramento's score was incremented to three by Juan Flores and Patricio Tenorio.
Turlock had an impressive run in the third period. Jesse Horta, Koochoie, and Jose Barajas each scored once, while Surge was unable to make a point.
The fourth period began with a terrific, quick passing play from Adrian Gutierrez to Barajas and through to Robledo who again found the net. Several seconds later, Samuel Saldate recorded Turlock's final tally of the match. After the Express's five-goal streak, a blue card given to Express goalkeeper Rafael Campos dramatically changed the energy in the arena. The penalty gave Sacramento a one-on-one opportunity against Campos, during which Campos received yet another blue card penalty for holding. Sacramento's Flores then capitalized on a penalty shot. Jorge Fernandez and Tenorio then made an additional two tallies for the Surge bringing their score to 6. The climactic events of the final quarter gave the Surge a powerful second wind, but the Express defense secured the team's victory.
Express coach Art Pulido - "This was another great game against the Sacramento Surge, our rival from up north. The team showed great improvements today, and we will be working hard this week in preparation for our upcoming challenge in Phoenix."
Turlock will be travelling to Arizona to face Real Phoenix next Saturday, and their next home game will take place on Friday, January 18 against Toros Mexico. This home match is expected to be this season's fan-favorite.
