OMAHA, NE - Friday, April 1 - The Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League have announced the return of MATT BOOCKMEIER as Director of Football Operations, and the addition of GEORGE GLENN as the Nighthawks Chief of Staff.
Nighthawks Head Coach JOE MOGLIA said, "Matt Boockmeier becomes a part of our hand-picked staff for the upcoming 2011 season because he possesses the skill set that fits our vision for the Nighthawks organization.
"My relationship with George Glenn was forged 36 years ago on a Delaware football field. Since then we have collaborated on everything from family, football and business. George brings many intangibles to this franchise."
Boockmeier starts his second year with the Nighthawks after holding a number of positions in professional football scouting. He served as the United States Scout for the Canadian Football League's Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2008 and 2009, helping the team to the 2009 Grey Cup.
Boockmeier returned to football in 2008 after starting a successful family business. His first foray into professional football came in the National Football League, first as a Player Personnel Intern for the Minnesota Vikings (1994). He then spent two and a half years as Combine Scout / Southwest for National Football Scouting (1995-97), then joined the Green Bay Packers, first as a Pro Personnel Analyst in 1998, then as East Coast Area Scout in 1999. He performed the workout with Packers wide receiver Donald Driver, who was drafted in the seventh round in 1999.
Boockmeier then was the West Coach Area Scout for the New Orleans Saints (2000-01), with Nighthawks General Manager RICK MUELLER, when they won their first-ever playoff game. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, and Matt and his family reside in Minnesota in the offseason.
Glenn has a long-standing relationship with Moglia spanning 36 years and with Nighthawks Defensive Coordinator TOM OLIVADOTTI that goes back 38 years. He is the winningest Head Coach in the history of Salesianum School in Wilmington, Delaware, winning 119 games from 1976 to 1992. Salesianum won the Delaware Division I state championship in 1986, when he was named Delaware Football Coach of the Year.
Glenn won another 25 games in four seasons as Head Coach at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes, Delaware. At the time he finished his 21-year Delaware head coaching career, Glenn was the second-winningest Head Coach in state history, and still ranks in the Top 10. He was the Head Coach at Staunton River High School in Moneta, Virginia, from 1969 to 1972, and started his coaching career as an assistant at Boones Creek High School in Johnson City, Tennessee, in 1966.
Glenn, who was Salesianum's Offensive Coordinator from 1972 to 1975, and helped the school to a state title in 1972, graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, and spent two years in the United States Army. He played four years of college football, serving as tri-captain and earning all-conference honors at Ferrum College.
