Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - Throw out just one inning and the Lancaster JetHawks turned in a great game in their first meeting of the season with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Unfortunately, the Quakes had one huge inning, striking for eight runs in the sixth inning to pull in front for an 8-5 victory Thursday night at the Hangar.
Lancaster was ahead 2-0 going into that fateful sixth inning. Starting pitcher David Duncan cruised through the first five frames, scattering just three hits without allowing a run. A two-run homer by Marcos Cabral in the third inning had given the JetHawks the lead. But a lead-off walk issued by Duncan, a pair of extra-base hits, and another walk were enough to drive Duncan out the game, trailing by one. Reid Kelly entered from the bullpen and struck out the first batter he faced, but then surrendered a pair of hits to bring in three more Quake runs. A fielding error by Cabral was followed by a two-run homer, and the JetHawks lead had degenerated into an 8-2 deficit.
The JetHawks sliced into the Quakes lead with a big seventh inning. Chris Minaker doubled in Brian Pellegrini, then scored on a double by Nick Moresi. A ground-out by Jason Castro brought in a third run, but the JetHawks were unable to get any closer.
T.J. Steele, making his Lancaster debut after coming off the disabled list, had a base hit in his first game. Cabral and David Flores each had three hits while Chris Minaker had two for the second straight night. J.B. Shuck extended his season-high eight game hit streak.
The JetHawks look to even the series with the Quakes Friday. Shane Wolf (0-2) will start for Lancaster against Rancho Cucamonga's Jayson Miller (0-0). The first pitch will be at 7:05 PM. Fans in attendance will receive a free Minor League Baseball pin while supplies last. The radio broadcast of the game on Magic 1340 and online at www.JetHawks.com begins with the Pre-Game Show at 6:45.
