Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - This time of year, starting pitchers are surprised if they are allowed to pitch past the fifth inning. Friday night at the Hangar, High Desert starter Nate Adcock went past the fifth - and all the way through the ninth in a complete game 9-1 victory over the JetHawks. The Mavericks right-hander shut down the Lancaster bats, allowing just six hits and striking out six. The JetHawks lone run came on an RBI single off the bat of Kobe Clemens in the fourth inning, but Lancaster could only muster one hit the rest of the way. Adcock did not walk a single batter as the Mavericks brushed the JetHawks aside for the second consecutive night.
Not only was Adcock's nine-inning effort impressive - so was the efficient manner in which he did it. The Elizabethtown, KY native needed just 83 pitches to get through the ballgame, and faced only four batters more than the minimum on the night.
Chris Hicks made a second consecutive solid start against the Mavericks (Hicks was the wining pitcher last Sunday in Adelanto in the JetHawks' first win of the season), lasting four and 2/3 innings. The Mavericks batters, however, took advantage of the JetHawks' bullpen. J.J. Pacella allowed the runner he inherited to score on a Travis Scott double, as well another run. Fernando Abad also gave up an earned run, and Jason Dominguez yielded four.
But Adcock was clearly the story of the night. In six of his nine innings, he needed fewer than eight pitches to retire the JetHawks. He got plenty of run support, including a two-run homer from Alex Liddi in the seventh and a solo shot from his battery mate Scott in the eighth. On the postgame radio show, Adcock credited Scott for calling a fantastic game, saying the two were on the same page.
These two same clubs will face off tomorrow night at 7:00 PM, on JetHawks hat giveaway night. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a free JetHawks baseball cap, presented by Desert Christian School. David Duncan (0-1) will get the start for Lancaster and face Edward Paredes (0-0). The radio broadcast on Magic 1340 and JetHawks.com will begin with the Pre-Game show at 6:45.
Great ticket packages, including season tickets and flexible mini-plans, are on sale now for the 2009 season and may be ordered by calling (661) 726-5400. For more information, please visit the JetHawks official website www.JetHawks.com.
