Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(ADELANTO, CA) - The JetHawks finally capitalized when opportunities presented themselves Sunday afternoon, and they rode that success to their first win of the season. A pair of home runs and a strong start by Chris Hicks led Lancaster to a 7-4 win over the High Desert Mavericks. The win helps the JetHawks avoid a sweep and gives them momentum heading into the home opener Monday night.

Hicks was steady throughout his five-inning debut outing. He held the Mavericks to just three hits and one run while striking out five over the first four frames. Hicks allowed a lead-off triple in the fifth inning, which was followed by a throwing error by third baseman David Flores. The error led to two runs as the Mavericks tied the game. Lancaster had taken the lead in the third inning on a two-run homer by Jon Gaston and a ground ball by Flores.

The JetHawks took the lead back in time to give Hicks credit for the win. With two on and two out in the sixth inning, left fielder Brian Pellegrini powered a pitch just over the right field wall for a three-run blast and a lead the JetHawks would hold the rest of the way.

Chia-Jen Lo, Sergio Severino, and Reid Kelly each got into trouble coming out of the Lancaster bullpen, but all worked out of their jams. Lo and Severino earned holds while Kelly picked up the JetHawks first save of the year.

Jason Castro and Koby Clemens each had two hits in the win, with Clemens knocking a double and triple. Flores, Craig Corrado, and J.B. Shuck each extended their season-opening hit streaks to four.

The JetHawks will now return to Lancaster for their first homestand of the season. The Opening Night festivities include performances by the Hawkettes. A special offer is available that includes a game ticket and All-You-Can-Eat dinner buffet for just $10. David Duncan will start for Lancaster against Inland Empire's Tim Sexton. The first pitch will be at 7:00 PM. The radio broadcast on Magic 1340 AM will kick off with the JetHawks Pre-Game show at 6:45.

Great ticket packages, including season tickets and flexible mini-plans, are on sale now for the 2009 season and may be ordered by calling (661) 726-5400. For more information, please visit the JetHawks official website www.JetHawks.com.
