Chicago Shamrox News Release
ST. PAUL, MN. - The Chicago Shamrox fought back from an early four-goal deficit by chalking up five fourth-quarter goals to defeat the Minnesota Swarm, 11-10, in the Shamrox first-ever road game.
"We got off to a slow start," said Head Coach Jamie Batley. "We threw the ball away too much and at halftime we decided not to do that. We worked hard out there and we never quit."
Forward Cody Jacobs fired in the game-winner at 11:31 of the fourth quarter, when Chris Panos' wide shot ricocheted off the back boards. Jacobs lunged forward to grab the bounding ball and tossed it past Minnesota goaltender Nick Patterson (0-1), who stopped 43 shots in the loss.
"It was definitely one of my biggest goals ever," said Jacobs. "I wouldn't have had the chance without [Panos'] work."
The Shamrox knotted the score three times during the fourth quarter before Jacobs' goal put them ahead to stay. Forwards Tom Montour and Josh Wasson-McQuigge each answered Swarm goals with their own tallies to keep Chicago within one goal the entire quarter.
The Swarm raced to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter, with forward Sean Pollock notching a goal in the game's opening minute and three different scorers posting goals in a 1:35 span in the middle of the quarter, including Brock Boyle collecting a rebound in front of the Chicago crease and tossing it past Shamrox goaltender Brandon Miller. Miller turned aside 43 shots to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Shamrox didn't light the lamp until a posting power-play tally at 13:35 of the opening quarter, when Panos collected a Jason Clark feed near the far post and tucked it behind Patterson. Wasson-McQuigge then cut the Swarm lead in half, 4-2, with his rocket from the high slot, besting Patterson to the glove side to open second quarter scoring.
Both teams alternated goals during the second quarter, with Chicago getting tallies from Cam Woods, Jon Harasym, and Panos to cut the halftime deficit to 7-5. A defensive third quarter saw just two goals, with the Shamrox Bill McGlone firing a spin-o-rama shot from halfway between the crease and far post that flew past Patterson to answer the Swarm's lone goal, scored by forward Chad Culp.
The Shamrox continue their season-high 4-game road trip next Saturday, January 20, at 7:00pm CT, when they meet the New York Titans at Madison Square Garden. The Shamrox return home to the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on Sunday, February 11 against the Buffalo Bandits at 3:00pm CT.
