Week 14 USL Pro Honors announced

July 24, 2006 - USL First Division (USL-1) News Release

TAMPA, FL - United Soccer Leagues announced Monday its USL First and Second Division Teams of the Week for the 14th week of the season, honoring Gavin Glinton of Charleston and David Flavius of Pittsburgh as the USL First and Second Division Players of the Week, respectively.

Charleston moved into a tie for third with a sound 2-0 win over Miami led by forward Gavin Glinton, who moved into a tie with Miami's Romario for second in the goal scoring table with 10 after scoring both on the night.

Fifteen minutes in, the Battery were in front after the ball was weighted forward to Glinton. Glinton controlled the pass then cut to the left of his defender before driving a low shot past Miami goalkeeper Hunter Gilstrap and into the goal.

Glinton scored a second in the 50th minute after substitute winger Armando Romero slipped a pass to him at the half-way line. Glinton out-paced his defender and managed to ride a challenge at the edge of the box from a second. Gilstrap came off his line to close the angle but Glinton tucked the ball past him into the empty net.

It is his second Player of the Week honor of the season for Glinton.

Similarly, David Flavius earned his second Player of the Week honor by leading the Riverhounds, tied for third, to a 4-1 win over Long Island with two goals and an assist.

Flavius got things going quickly for the Riverhounds, knocking in the first goal of the match in the 13th minute on a pass from midfielder Gabe Bernstein.

Though several Riverhounds turned in excellent first half efforts, it was David Flavius who shined above the rest. Flavius added his second goal of the night in 41st minute, launching a rocket passed Long Island goalkeeper, Jack Stefanowski, on a pass from midfielder Jean Robens to make it 3-0.

Flavius then returned the favor to Robens, setting him up in the first half stoppage time for the Hounds fourth and final goal of the night as they cruised to the win.
