Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(SAN BERNARDINO, CA) - A night after a 16th inning home run gave the JetHawks a win, the 66ers were able to turn the tables. Matt Berezay, who made the final out in the previous game, this time was the hero as his two-run homer in the ninth inning lifted the 66ers past the JetHawks 6-5. The win also pushed Inland Empire in front of the JetHawks in the second half race by a half-game.
The loss was especially disappointing considering how the game began. Lancaster starting pitcher Chris Province mowed down the 66ers early, retiring the first 13 batters of the game. The JetHawks built a 3-0 lead thanks to a solo home run by Jason Place and a two-run double by Daniel Nava.
The perfect game was broken up by a home run in the fifth inning, but the big comeback came in the sixth. Province recorded the first two outs, but the 66ers drove him out of the game with four straight hits to get to within one. Cody McAllister came out of the JetHawks bullpen but gave up two more hits to tie the game.
While McAllister kept the 66ers off the scoreboard in the seventh and eighth with two perfect innings, the JetHawks took the lead back. Luis Exposito tripled to open the eighth and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kris Negron to give Lancaster another chance to win before the disaster struck in the ninth.
Exposito's triple continued his career-best 12 game hitting streak. Luis Segovia had two hits and a RBI for Lancaster and has now hit in six straight, his longest streak of the season.
The JetHawks continue a six-game road trip Friday night against Rancho Cucamonga. Travis Beazley (4-10) starts for Lancaster while the Quakes counter with Sean O'Sullivan (13-4). The game starts at 7:05 PM. The radio coverage is broadcast live on Magic 1340 AM and online at www.JetHawks.com with the Pre-Game show starting at 6:50.
Individual game tickets for all JetHawks home games, including playoff games, are available in person at the JetHawks Box Office Monday - Friday from 10 AM - 5 PM or Saturdays from 10 AM - 3 PM.
