2023 NBLC Playoffs Ready to Tip-Off this Weekend

Published on May 3, 2023 under National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) News Release

The 2023 NBL Canada Playoffs are set to tip off this weekend, with a pair of matchups that look to continue the energy of one of the league's most exciting regular seasons.

"It has been a wild season with all sorts of in-game heroics, buzzer beaters, thrilling games across the league, even a chase of the top seed to the end. Now, all that intensity gets ramped up for the playoffs," said Audley Stephenson, NBLC Commissioner. "Our teams and their fans always get up for the playoffs. There's not a lot of room for errors in these series, so that leads to a lot more exciting moments to come. The regular season was a prelude - the playoffs are the real deal."

The London Lighting (23-6) enter the playoffs as the top seed with the league's best regular season record. The Bolts will take on the KW Titans (9-14) in a first-round rematch of last year's NBLC Finals. The Sudbury Five (22-8) fell just short of securing the top home court advantage and will play the Windsor Express (12-14) in the other first-round matchup.

The 2023 NBL Canada Finals will also be a best-of-five series following a 2-2-1 format with the highest remaining seed getting home-court advantage. A Finals schedule will be released following the first round.

The 2023 post-season tournament will lead to the league crowning the league's 10th champion in its history. Last season, the Lightning nabbed an unprecedented fifth title with a sweep of KW in the NBLC Finals. A win this year would give the Bolts a third back-to-back title reign.
