London Lightning News Release
(LONDON, ON) - The London Lightning and National Basketball League of Canada regret to announce that the remainder of the 2019/20 regular season and playoffs have been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
NBL Canada Deputy Commissioner, Audley Stephenson, made the announcement early Wednesday following a meeting of the league's board of governors where the board unanimously agreed to cancel the remainder of the season.
The announcement follows the NBL Canada's announcement, on March 12th , that it would suspend all basketball operations due to the Coronavirus outbreak and committed to monitor and assess the situation accordingly.
"Our league remains dedicated to the health and safety of our players, officials, fans, staff and general public and we feel that our decision to cancel the season is a prudent one in order to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus." - Audley Stephenson
Fans are urged to continue to follow the safety measures put in place by their local authorities as the Lightning begins preparations for its tenth anniversary season in 2020-21.
