FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, AB (November 6, 2014) - As FC Edmonton moves forward towards the 2015 North American Soccer League (NASL) season, today the club announced the release of six players from the 2014 FCE roster. Goalkeeper Lance Parker, midfielders Neil Hlavaty, Horace James, Mike Banner, Massimo Mirabelli and Edem Mortotsi have parted ways with FC Edmonton.
"With all of the players, we parted on good terms," said Colin Miller, FC Edmonton head coach. "All of these lads have been fantastic professionals and their attitude, work-rate and effort has been fantastic while at FC Edmonton. As a club, we are going in a different direction and we wish them all the best."
Parker, 29, joined FC Edmonton in 2011 when, after only three league matches, he was forced into a year's worth of recovery due to a fractured arm. Parker returned to his spot between the posts for the Eddies in the spring of 2012 and finished off with the 5th best GAA in the NASL. In 2013, Parker played 1735 minutes for the Eddies, third-most minutes in the league, and posted the second-lowest GAA (0.950) in the league. This season, Parker was kept to the sidelines with injuries but tallied 540 minutes and a GAA of 1.50.
Hlavaty, 27, arrived at FC Edmonton in time for the 2013 NASL season where in his first year in Canada, he lead the team in minutes played (just over 2200). His free-kick against Atlanta Silverbacks in June of that year lead him to league Goal of the Week honours as well as being a finalist for the NASL 2013 Goal of the Year. He posted 1820 minutes in 2014 with three goals and three assists.
James, 29, signed with FC Edmonton in 2014 after a two week trial with the club. He played 1454 minutes over the Spring and Fall Season and scored twice with two assists. Before joining the Eddies, James was with the Atlanta Silverbacks where he stayed for two seasons.
Banner, 30, joined FC Edmonton from topflight team FF Jaro in Finland in the offseason of 2014. Only making two appearances and playing 106 minutes for the Eddies in the NASL, Banner was forced to sit on the side lines after a season ending injury in the Amway Canadian Championship.
Mirabelli, 23, came to Edmonton to participate in the FC Edmonton Combine in November of 2012, where he was the only player to sign a contract with the team out of the camp. Mirabelli played 727 minutes in his first season with FC Edmonton and scored twice in 2013. He made five appearances in 2014 for the Eddies and earned 62 minutes.
Mortotsi, 21, signed his first professional contract with FC Edmonton in 2013. Mortotsi made his professional debut in FC Edmonton's 2013 season opener against Fort Lauderdale Strikers and made a total of 10 appearances for the club during the season. This season he played 56 minutes in the NASL regular season.
FC Edmonton wishes all of these players the best in their soccer futures.
