June 21, 2015 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Albany Dutchmen News Release
While this year's installment of the Albany Dutchmen are 30 percent through the 2015 slate, a key member of last year's squad continues to make national headlines.
After mashing the walk-off homerun to send his Virginia Cavaliers to the College World Series, last night second basemen Ernie Clement scored what proved to be the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 7th inning. The run lifted Virginia past the Florida Gators 5-4, sending the Cavaliers to the CWS Final in a rematch against defending national champion Vanderbilt.
Clement went 1-3 in the pivotal game, starting the 7th inning rally with a single to left field, before scoring on Kenny Towns' sac-fly.
In his freshman year with the Cavaliers, Clement has started 58 games, hitting at .243 with 6 doubles, 3 triples and a homerun. Clement has also driven in 21 RBI, and crossed home plate 25 times.
Clement is hitting .307 in his four games at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, with 3 runs scored and a RBI.
Last season in Albany, Clement's .322 average in 19 games was second best on the team. Along with his impressive average, Clement hit five extra base hits and drove in 9 RBI.
The Dutchmen would like to congratulate Ernie Clement on his fantastic freshman campaign, and wish him all the best in the College World Series Final against Vanderbilt!
