2010 Nutrilite Canadian Championship Schedule Announced
February 4, 2010 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Montreal Impact News Release
TORONTO, Ontario - The Canadian Soccer Association and its three top professional clubs - Montreal Impact, Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps - announced Thursday the schedule for the 2010 Nutrilite Canadian Championship.
The three-team, six-match tournament will run for six consecutive Wednesday nights from April 28 to June 2. The 2010 winner will advance to represent Canada in the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League season.
"We will do everything to have the chance to relive our feats of 2008," declared Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos. "Following our championship conquest, our experience in the CONCACAF Champions League was extraordinary both for the club and for soccer in Canada. We know it will not be easy because all three teams have the right elements to win the Canadian Championship. However, I think it's the team that will be best prepared that will most likely get a hold of the title."
"The pride of Canada will be on the line during the 2010 Nutrilite Canadian Championship," said Canadian Soccer Association President Dr. Dominique Maestracci. "Only the best will move forward to represent our nation in 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League and hopefully the FIFA Club World Cup 2011. It should be another thrilling championship between the Impact, Toronto FC and the Whitecaps."
This will mark the third season of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship. This year, all six matches will be broadcast on Rogers Sportsnet, the official English broadcaster of the championship. Details on the championship's French broadcast will be forth coming.
As 2009 champions, Toronto FC will host at BMO Field both the opening and closing matches of the competition. The April 28 match will feature Toronto FC against the Impact; the June 2 match will feature Toronto FC against the Whitecaps.
The Montreal Impact will play its second tournament match at Swangard Stadium in Vancouver, May 5. The Impact will then host its two matches at Saputo Stadium, May 12 against Toronto FC and May 26 against Vancouver.
Tickets for the two Canadian Championship matches at Saputo Stadium are included in season ticket packages. 2010 season tickets are currently on sale at 514-328-3668 or at impactmontreal.com. Individual tickets for the tournament will go on sale at a later date.
The Impact won the inaugural championship in 2008, while Toronto FC won the 2009 championship. During the tournament last year, the three clubs played to an average 96% capacity in their stadiums.
