2008 WNBA Finals to be presented by adidas
September 15, 2008 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) News Release
NEW YORK - Sept. 15, 2008 - The WNBA announced today that adidas will be the official presenting partner of the 2008 WNBA Playoffs and 2008 WNBA Finals. adidas will be the first partner to present the WNBA's entire postseason.
The 2008 WNBA Playoffs presented by adidas will begin Thursday, Sept. 18 when both the Eastern and Western Conference Semifinals tip off. The Eastern Conference Semifinals will get underway first when the No. 2 seed Connecticut Sun visits the No. 3 seed New York Liberty (7 p.m. ET on NBA TV). Later that evening, the Western Conference Semifinals will tip off when the No. 1 team in the West, the San Antonio Silver Stars, visit the No. 4-seeded Sacramento Monarchs (9 p.m. ET on ESPN2).
As the official presenter of the WNBA Playoffs and Finals, adidas continues its commitment to women's basketball and the WNBA. This season, adidas was the presenting partner of the 2008 WNBA Draft and the WNBA iDesign program which gave fans the opportunity to submit an original shooting shirt design to be worn on court during one game of the WNBA Finals. adidas has been the official uniform and apparel provider of the WNBA since 2006.
"adidas continues to bring the sisterhood of basketball at its highest level to the fans," said league President Donna Orender. "This year has been the best we've ever seen in terms of competition on the court. The adidas partnership will highlight what is an outstanding time of year when the greatest women's basketball players in the world take center stage."
All first round series will follow a best-of-three format with the higher seed opening on the road before hosting Game 2 and, if necessary, a deciding Game 3.
