The Rockford Thunder is looking for interns for the remainder of the 2008 off season and the 2009 regular season. The internship, which begins in early-January, is open to college students ONLY that have, at minimum, completed their sophomore year.

The persons hired as interns will work closely with the General Manager and President in recognizing opportunities, following-up on partnership agreements with local, regional and national businesses, effectively marketing the Thunder and much more.

We are seeking individuals who are highly motivated and detail oriented, that are organized and able to work effectively with others. Interested applicants must possess strong written and verbal skills, as well as proficiency in MS Word and Excel. Knowledge of fastpitch softball and sports is a plus.

Qualifications and Requirements:

-College student that has completed sophomore year

-Energetic and enthusiastic

-Must be a "team player"

-Interested in more than just working in a high profile sports environment

-Ability to multi-task

-Willing to offer ideas and suggestions

-Punctual and professional

-Able to work 15-20 hours per week

Start Date: Early to mid-January 2009 (negotiable)

End Date: July 31, 2009

Compensation: Interns can receive college credit per the University's requirements. All interns will receive commission (20%) on all new sponsors, season tickets and NEW large group sales.

Benefits: Interns will receive proper staff credentials and apparel appropriate for the position.

Interns are required to provide their own housing for the duration of the internship.

Positions Available/Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Corporate Sales (2-3)

-Prepare and present proposals to corporate decision-makers

-Ensure that all elements included in each agreement are delivered in a first-class manner in accordance with the provisions of the corporate partnership

-Create contact lists of possible corporate partners

-Effectively come up with new ideas and opportunities to attract corporate partners

-Other duties as assigned

*Commission Opportunities

Ticket Sales - Group/Individual (2-3)

-Handle all internal ticket sales operations from phone, fax and internet orders

-Coordinate seating arrangements for all groups that purchase tickets

-Contact former groups about purchasing for 2009 season

-Responsible for day of game ticket operations, including manning ticket booth and ticket gate

-Be contact for any ticketing issues that arise at the games

-Assist in creating ticket vouchers for special events and appearances (i.e. Beloit Snappers games)

-Other duties as assigned

*Commission Opportunities

Game Day Operations, Marketing and Promotions (3-4)

-Coordinate all first pitch and National Anthem opportunities

-Ensure that all parts of the game run smoothly, including pregame ceremonies (i.e. first pitch, anthem, etc.), starting lineups, in-game promotions and postgame autographs

-Manage the parking lot and entrance to Thunder Park at Roscoe

-Create effective sign-up sheets for in-game promotions and handle liability forms and entering of the email addresses online

-Effectively run all extra-curricular activities available at Thunder Park (i.e. speed pitch, climbing wall, etc.)

-Create ideas to increase attendance through special night and opportunities (i.e. Church Night, Culvers Kids Days, etc.)

-Other duties as assigned

Public and Media Relations (1-2)

-Responsible for content and management of the team's website (www.thunderprofastpitch.com)

-Assist in writing and editing of team media guide/program for 2009 season

-Write feature stories and unique news stories for the media and website

-Coordinate media requests for interviews and photographs at all team events and act as team media contact at all home games

-Serve as the team's official statistician during all home games and follow-up with other teams to receive appropriate files needed

-Write postgame releases for all 25 regular season games and exhibition games as needed

-Other duties as assigned

Volunteer/Staff Coordinator (1)

--Assist in placement of all game day volunteers and staff personnel

-Serve as primary on-site contact for all volunteers and staff working each game

-Recruit volunteers to serve as ushers, ticket takers, program sellers, merchandise workers, etc.

-Other duties as assigned

Administration/Front Office (1)

-Assist the General Manager with various miscellaneous duties including payroll, bonuses and player relations

-Serve as a primary contact for the organization during office hours

-Other duties as assigned

Community and Fan Relations (2-3)

-Fulfill all Culver's Kids Club and Fan Club orders

-Work with different community organizations (i.e. schools, lodge groups, etc.) to get player appearances arranged

-Serve as primary contact for fans at all games to assist with seating assignments, post game autographs, etc.

-Assist at all Thunder clinics, Thunder Kickball League and tournaments. Assist the team at any community appearances (i.e. Beloit Snappers games, youth tournaments, etc.)

-Other duties as assigned

Sports Medicine/Athletic Training (1-2)

-Assist team trainer will all pregame treatments of both home and visiting teams

-Provide updates on injuries, as necessary, to both the team coaching staff and General Manager

-Serve as the visiting team trainer, as needed, during the game itself

-Other duties as assigned

Merchandise and Equipment Manager (1-2)

-Responsible for management of team's merchandise sells, both in the office and at the stadium

-Assists the General Manager with new designs and products for the Team Store

-Maintains relationship with various outfitters and suppliers utilized by the team

-Works with General Manager to ensure all player uniforms and equipment is ordered and is sized properly

-Effectively coordinates the distribution of player equipment, furniture and housing needs upon arrival into market

-Other duties as assigned

Food and Beverage (3-4)

-Works with vendors and concession stand at Thunder Park during all home games

-Maintains relationship with different vendors and coordinates space needs and requirements for each vendor

-Assists the General Manager with weekly orders of necessary items (i.e. beer, soda, etc.)

-Responsible for game night reports following each home game, which includes the profit margin, payment, etc.

-Other duties as assigned
