2005 Opening Day Roster Announced

(Lancaster, CA) – The Lancaster JetHawks, in conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks, have announced the players that will start the 2005 season in the Antelope Valley. Several of the Diamondbacks top prospects are on the roster including Garrett Mock, Reggie Abercrombie, and Chris Carter . The roster features 12 pitchers, two catchers, eight infielders, and four outfielders. The roster includes 13 players that have seen playing time in a JetHawks uniform in the past.

Mock, the Diamondbacks third round pick in last year's draft will anchor the 2005 pitching staff. The former University of Houston star started 13 games last year in the D-backs system and compiled a 5-2 record with a 2.56 ERA. The other pitchers on the roster include former JetHawks Jon Castellanos, Dustin Glant, Ryan Holsten, Jared Liebeck, Sam Smith, and Carlton Wells. The remainder of the pitching staff, all of whom will be making their first appearances in Lancaster are Ryan Coffin, Alex Cremidan, Chris Kinsey, Ruben Kerbs, and Chad Scarberry,

Abercrombie, who joined the JetHawks late last season, will open the 2005 campaign in Lancaster. Abercrombie hit .342 with three home runs and 19 RBI in 29 games with the JetHawks following a July 31 trade from the Dodgers. The other outfielders on the roster are Jeff Cook, Jon Kaplan, and Alex Frazier.

Carter, a teammate of former JetHawks outfielder Carlos Quentin at Stanford, and the Diamondbacks 17th round draft pick in last year's draft will see time in both the outfield and at first base. In just 76 games last year, Carter combined to hit .339 with 17 home runs and 70 RBI in Yakima and South Bend. Other JetHawks infielders will have familiar faces to fans as Steve Garrabrants, Jay Garthwaite, Danny Richar, and Sean Luellwitz will open the season in Lancaster. Along with seeing time at first and third bases, Garthwaite will also spend time in the outfield also.

Catcher is the only position that will have all new names on the roster. Miguel Montero hit .263 in 115 games in South Bend last year, and Brian Rose hit .238 with 11 home runs, also with the Silver Hawks in 2004.

After arriving in the Antelope Valley on Sunday, the JetHawks will hold open to the public work outs on Monday, April 4 at 4 P.M., Tuesday, April 5 at 5:30 P.M, and Wednesday, April 6 at 3:30 P.M. Each of the work outs is scheduled to last approximately 2 ½ hours, but the actually length of each session may very. Although the format of each work out has not been announced, each should include infield/outfield work, pitchers fielding, and batting practice.

The JetHawks will open the 2005 season on the road against the High Desert Mavericks on April 7, and will play their first home game of the year on April 12 against the San Jose Giants at Clear Channel Stadium at Lancaster, CA.
