
2002-2002 All-WCHL Team Announced

BOISE, Idaho - The West Coast Hockey League today announced the 2001-2002 All-WCHL teams. The WCHL head coaches and general managers, as well as members of the media, selected the teams. First and second All-WCHL teams were announced today, while the All-WCHL Rookie Team will be announced Tuesday.
San Diego Gulls teammates John Spoltore and Mark Woolf were the only players unanimously selected to the First Team. Spoltore leads the WCHL in scoring with 109 points, which includes a league leading 80 assists. Woolf earns All-WCHL honors for the third consecutive season. He currently leads the WCHL with 49 goals scored in 62 games. The third forward to earn All-WCHL First Team honors is first-year Idaho Steelhead Bobby Stewart. Stewart has helped the Steelheads pull within reaching distance of their first Founders Cup and leads the team in goals scored (37) and assists (50).
The All-WCHL First Team defensemen are Jamie Sokolsky of the Long Beach Ice Dogs and Trevor Sherban of the San Diego Gulls. Sokolsky has been one of the league's top scoring blue liners all season. In 65 games, he has scored 14 goals and 38 assists for 52 points, recording a +20 plus/minus rating. Sherban ranks third among WCHL defensemen with 49 points in 62 games and is a member of a defense that allows opponents just 2.90 goals per game.
The fourth San Diego Gull to receive First Team All-WCHL honors is Trevor Koenig. Koenig earns First Team All-WCHL honors for the second consecutive season. The 2000-01 WCHL Outstanding Goaltender leads WCHL goalies with 39 wins, 1,650 saves, and a .913 save percentage.
