(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats are pleased to announce the signing of a former 1st Team All-NBL Canada performer: 6'6 forward Lawrence Wright, pending FIBA clearance.
Wright was a starter for the 2011-12 Halifax Rainmen who lost the inaugural NBL Canada Finals in Game 5 to the London Lightning. Wright averaged 15.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.0 steals per game on 49.5% shooting from the field during the 2011-12 season. He was teammates with current Mill Rats, Tyrone Levett and Eric Crookshank.
He boasts a 44 inch vertical leap and a 7'0 wingspan to boot.
Wright was named 1st Team All-NBL that season along with Anthony Anderson, Ralphy Holmes, Gabe Freeman, and Mike Williams. Since 2012 he has been playing in France, Luxembourg, and Finland. He played his college ball at NCAA Division 1 Bradley University. He is from Wheatfland, California.
"Lawrence is a great defender, can score, and is very athletic," said Mill Rats Head Coach Rob Spon. "He will have an instant chemistry with our guys as he knows most of them and he is hungry to bring a championship to Saint John."
Wright is expected to miss the upcoming road trip while waiting for FIBA clearance but hopes to be in uniform for the Mill Rats next home game on February 10th against the Moncton Miracles at 7PM.
