South Georgia Peanuts News Release
The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, swept a series for the seventh time this season with an 11-5 victory over Anderson on Wednesday night. Jasha Balcom and Doc Brooks each recorded four hits while Nick Prosise went 3-4 with three runs and three RBI.
South Georgia once again got the lead in the first inning. Jasha Balcom, Joey Hooft and Nick Prosise led off the bottom of the first by all getting hits and then each of them came around to score to put the Peanuts ahead 3-0.
In all, the Peanuts scored runs in all but the second and fourth innings. The Peanuts were able to put up another three-spot in the sixth inning with Balcom, Prosise and Doc Brooks each scoring. Brooks had his third run-scoring double in the inning.
The pitching was not great, as the Peanuts allowed five runs, but it was more than good enough to win. Dumas Garcia pitched six innings allowing two runs on six hits and got the win to move his record to 6-1. Jake Upwood, Ja Jones and Drew Shetrone each pitched one inning to secure the victory.
At the plate, Jasha Balcom went 4-5 with three runs and one RBI. Brooks went 4-5 with one run scored and added to his team-leading RBI total with 4 RBI. Prosise went 3-4 with three runs and three RBI. In all, seven Peanuts scored runs and five drove runners home. The Peanuts tied a season-high with 19 hits.
The Peanuts open up a five-game series with the Bradenton Juice on Thursday. The two teams will play a double-header beginning at 6:10. Two seven inning games will be played with a 20-30 minute break in between. Dustin Taylor and Mike Colacchio are each expected to start one of the ballgames. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Peanuts box office or logging onto southgeorgiapeanuts.com.
