15 USHL Alumni Named to World Cup Rosters

March 2, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release


15 USHL graduates were named to 2016 World Cup of Hockey rosters. Preliminary 16-man rosters for the international tournament, scheduled to start Sept. 17 in Toronto, were announced throughout the day Wednesday in conjunction with the NHL. In addition to national teams participating will be Team North America, comprised of the top 23-and-under players from the United States and Canada, as well as Team Europe.

Team North America, the youngest of the World Cup rosters, has the most USHL alumni (7) of any World Cup team. Notable alumni named to rosters include San Jose Sharks captain Joe Pavelski (Waterloo Black Hawks), Buffalo Sabres rookie Jack Eichel (Team USA), Calgary Flames Johnny Gaudreau (Dubuque Fighting Saints), Winnipeg Jets Blake Wheeler (Green Bay Gamblers) and Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson (Team USA).
