Colorado 14ers News Release

DENVER - Jan. 20, 2008 - The Colorado 14ers used a 71 point second half to top the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 102-79 at the Broomfield Event Center on Sunday night. The 14ers improve to 12-9 on the season with the win, while the Vipers fall to 10-13 with the loss.

Rio Grande Valley used tough defense to take a 38-31 lead into the locker room at halftime. But Colorado countered by outscoring the Vipers 71-41 over the final two quarters to take the win.

"We came out of the locker room energized, we played good defense, and our shots fell," said 14ers Head Coach Joe Wolf. "And we really did a nice job on the defensive end in the second half."

After the Vipers took a 53-51 lead with 4:13 remaining in the third quarter, Colorado reeled off an 11-2 run in the final minutes of the third to take a 62-55 lead. Brian Greene and Eddie Gill then combined to score 26 fourth quarter points as the 14ers outran Rio Grande Valley 40-24 in the final quarter.

Elton Brown led the way for Colorado with his league-leading 15th double-double of the season, posting 16 points and 15 rebounds in the win. Gill also added 16 points and 7 assists, while four other 14ers scored in double figures in the win.

Kris Collins came off the Vipers bench to lead all scorers with 19 points in 26 minutes of action. Desmon Farmer added 18 for Rio Grande Valley in the loss.

Colorado and Rio Grande Valley will tip-off against each other again tomorrow night in Broomfield at 7:00 p.m.
