Colorado 14ers News Release

NEW YORK, N.Y., Nov. 15, 2007 - The New Jersey Nets have signed Colorado 14ers' guard Eddie Gill, making him the first GATORADE Call-Up of the 2007-08 NBA Development League season, and the 91st overall since the league began play in November 2001.

Gill, 29, played four preseason games with the Nets this year and averaged 4.3 points, 3.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 24 minutes per game.

"He was terrific in camp for us. He knows what we're doing, so it's a natural fit," said Rod Thorn the Nets President. "He's a tough, competitive kid. He'll help us out."

During his five-year NBA career, Gill has averaged 3.1 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists, including a previous stint with the Nets during the 2000-01 season. That season he averaged 4.9 points and 3.0 assists and scored the NBA's eight millionth point against the Celtics on 4/15/01.

A 2000 graduate of Weber State, Gill was selected first overall in the 2007 D-League Draft by the Colorado 14ers. Gill has previously spent time in the D-League when he saw action in 35 games for the Asheville Altitude during the 2002-03 season.

Gill is practicing with the Nets today and will be wearing number eight.

The NBA Development League is the NBA's official minor league, and the first-ever basketball league with direct affiliations to NBA teams. Now in its seventh season the D-League's goals are to provide affordable, NBA-caliber entertainment to fans of its 14 teams, as well as continue to develop players, coaches, referees and front-office personnel for the NBA. As the single source for in-season player "call-ups" to the NBA, fans of the D-League enjoy the highest caliber of basketball played outside the NBA. In fact, former D-League players represented 10 percent of NBA players on 2007-08 opening day rosters, numbering 44 in total. In addition, the D-League has produced 25 percent of current NBA referees and 16 current NBA coaches, including head coach Sam Vincent with the Charlotte Bobcats. The D-League is an innovative and rapidly growing sports property that also serves as an experimental testing ground for new initiatives of the NBA and its teams, provides continuing education and professional development resources for its players, and is committed to serving its local communities through D-LEAGUE CARES and grassroots efforts.
